Yojiro Noda, the vocalist of popular rock band RADWIMPS, recently shared a harrowing experience from a live performance on his social media. The incident occurred during the ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL in Chiba Prefecture, where RADWIMPS was performing as a headliner.
A Near-Death Experience on Stage
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Noda recounted the event: Rockin' Japan final day. We headlined, and it was the best! I feel like I can finally end summer properly now. It was a summer filled with nothing but music, and it was amazing. Thank you for spending the end with us. He then added a shocking detail: At the beginning of the last song, I was directly hit by the special effects explosion and genuinely thought I died for a moment. My throat felt burnt, and I thought my eardrum burst. Fortunately, I only sustained burns in a few places. Only my hand hurts now. It's still super hot... but I'm alive! I'm glad. I thought some people watching the footage might be worried, so I'm letting you know. (By the way, it wasn't a mistake by the Rockin' Japan side, but a communication error on our team's part.) We'll have a proper debriefing with the staff.
Fan Concerns and the Aftermath
Noda also updated his Instagram stories with a photo of the sparks flying on stage, captioning it, This, lol. I thought, 'It's over.'
Fans immediately flooded his posts with messages of concern: Yojiro, I'm so glad you're safe, Yojiro, please take care, so relieved you're okay, Don't push yourself, please rest slowly and take care of your health, I was worried, thinking, 'Did he get hit?!' Please take care, I was so worried! Since I wasn't at the venue, I really didn't know your safety and was scared. So glad you're alive! and So glad you're alive, truly. I was worried sick. Please, don't overdo it...
This incident highlights the inherent risks that performers sometimes face, even with carefully planned stage productions. While Noda assured fans it was a team communication error rather than a festival oversight, it serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of live events. His candor about the experience resonated deeply with his fanbase, who continue to wish him a swift recovery.
