A 21-year-old security screening officer at Haneda Airport in Tokyo has been arrested on suspicion of theft, accused of systematically stealing cash from passengers' wallets during baggage checks since August, with estimated total proceeds of around 1.5 million yen from 80 people.
Bold Theft During Screening
According to the announcement, the specific allegation involves the suspect stealing 90,000 yen out of 110,000 yen placed in a tray by a male passenger in his 30s at Terminal 1's security checkpoint on the afternoon of the 13th. The arrest was made on the 14th.

Exploiting the Position of Trust
The man allegedly stole the cash as the passenger walked through a metal detector, swiftly concealing the bills in his uniform's chest pocket. The crime was discovered when the victim reported the missing money to another screening officer.
Confession and Motive
The suspect, an employee of a security company subcontracted by Japan Airlines, confessed to the allegations. He reportedly stated his motives were twofold: "I enjoyed the thrill of stealing cash," and that he found the job tough and intended to use the money "as a cushion for when I quit." He had joined the company in April of this year.
