Details of the Incident

Of the nine children aged 3 to 5 years old on board, six sustained minor injuries, including bruises and nosebleeds. One staff member was unharmed. According to the Kamagaya Police Department, the shuttle bus, operated by 'Kamagaya Sakura Kindergarten,' was traveling on a single-lane city road when it crossed the center line and collided with a residential fence on the opposite side.

Kamagaya Sakura Kindergarten confirmed that the bus operation was outsourced to an external company, and Mr. Miyashita was a substitute driver for the regular operator.

Eyewitness Accounts

A 70-year-old woman who runs a tofu shop across the street heard a loud 'crash' from inside her store. Rushing outside, she saw the driver slumped in his seat and immediately called an ambulance. She recalled, 'Some children in the bus were crying from the shock, but there wasn't a huge commotion.'

A 50-year-old dentist who witnessed the accident expressed deep sadness, stating, 'The children seemed too shaken to speak. I was worried about the driver, and I'm speechless to hear he passed away.'
